Trolls

We've all heard of trolls, and I'd be shocked if anyone said that they've never encountered one. They're everywhere, on YouTube, Yahoo! Answers, Stardoll... you name it. Needless to say, I'll be focusing on Stardoll trolls. Some people view trolling as harmless fun, while others insist that it's an awful thing to do. It's fairly easy to understand both points of view. Those who say it's harmless are assuming everyone will take it as a joke, and if they're not trying to hurt anyone, they won't...right? Those who say it's awful think that it's just plain hurtful. Or at least that's the way I see it.

A week or so ago, a friend and I were trolling the chats. We would go in and I would try to blend in with the crowd while he hit on girls. After a few minutes, I cause a bunch of drama, saying I'm his girlfriend and causing a bunch of drama. We'd let it go on for a bit before we'd say it was a joke. I'll admit that we made a lot of people mad that day. Most people would curse at us, but there were those that laughed about it. Some people were mad at first, but got over it fairly quickly and laughed with us. This illustrates my point of view on the situation clearly: as long as you're not hurting anyone, it's fine to play jokes on people. Honestly, those girls probably forgot about it by the next day, how much could some guy they met online and talked to for maybe five minutes honestly mean to them?

What do you think about trolling? Is it harmless fun or something people should feel guilty about?
